eYeka’s community gathers creatives among the 1% of content creators on the web (see
Forrester Research). They are intrinsically motivated by creative challenges and like to express their ideas visually in videos, animations, collages, designs or even napkin sketches! That’s why eYeka’s community of creative consumers mainly gathers amateurs and students who are looking for stimulation rather than a real means of income.
The growth of eYeka’s community of creative consumers has been stunning over the past years. eYeka was created in 2006 and started quite small, but since then the platform has attracted thousands of creative minds across the globe. The above graphic shows the growth of the community since 2008, which has increased sixfold since then. It’s simple: a new member joins eYeka every 5 minutes. eYeka allocates considerable resources to managing and nurturing the community of creative consumers. Our experience in connecting creative consumers to brands gives us valuable insights into people’s motivations to participate on eYeka and to co-create with major brands. Most of the creative consumers seek creative stimulation on eYeka, which allows them both to express themselves and to improve their skills (‘Fulfillment’). Besides, community members often tell us how they spend good times with friends creating videos or brainstorming for ideas, thus ‘Fun’ is another major motivation for participating on eYeka. Our community management experience also allows us to address the financial motivations of creative consumers, which have to be adapted to the desired output and to the estimated effort for creative consumers; therefore, what we call this driver ‘Fortune’. Finally, a community platform like eYeka gives them an outlet to showcase their work, whether it is to the community, to the brand or to a wider audience. The ‘Fame’-factor is important for the community, even though the extent to which they seek recognition is variable among participants.
Their engagement : « Since the creation of eYeka, creative consumers have contributed a lot of different ways to content creation. Client companies engaged the community through more than 400 briefs, and the community responded with 50,000+ creative responses (this represents 137 entries per brief on average!). Of course, co-creative engagement depends on the question, the guidelines and the incentives offered to the community, but eYeka’s core competency is to be a competent intermediary between companies and creative consumers. The value of community contributions does not only lie in innovative ideas but also in the authenticity of the contributions, revealing unmet needs or consumer insights that are highly valuable to improve innovation relevancy. »
When you’re asking creative consumers to co-create, you want them to express themselves in an authentic yet visual and creative manner. Hence, knowing that their primary sources of inspiration are their daily lives, their families and/or their friends is very important. One of eYeka’s Chinese community members told us that ‘[his] city is often where his ideas come from’; which allows him to contribute to eYeka’s diversity by his authentic engagement and creative input. Since eYeka is a unique platform for co-creative engagement with brands, the majority of our community members are willing to participate in future call for entries and would recommend eYeka to friends !
Today, access to information is no longer sedentary; people use laptops, tablets and mobile phones to access information everywhere. It’s even more true with inspiration. People access eYeka not only on their home computer, but also on their mobile devices to connect with eYeka
